Cytoscape is participating in Google Summer of Code 2026 as part of the National Resource for Network Biology (NRNB.org).

Google Summer of Code (GSoC)  is a highly competitive and unique program - since 2005, 22,000 contributors have been accepted into the program. The program is open to all newcomers of open source that are 18 years and older.

If you are interested in working with Cytoscape as part of GSoC, check out our project ideas and reach out to mentors to learn more here: https://github.com/nrnb/GoogleSummerOfCode/issues

Who can apply?
  • You must be at least 18 years of age when you register
  • The GSoC program is open to all students AND to beginner contributors to open source. For more details on the definition of beginner please see the FAQ.
  • You can be accepted into GSoC as s contributors a maximum of 2 times.
  • You must reside in a country that is not currently embargoed by the United States. See Program Rules for more information.
  • People with visa restrictions (which they must determine on their own) may not be able to participate in GSoC, or in some cases they can participate but can’t accept a stipend.
  • You must not already be affiliated with a mentor’s lab or team
