Hello! At first glance this looks like an i(Y)(q10) although in a couple of pictures it looks like an idic(Y)(pter). Is it likely that there are more than one cell lines where the abnormal Y has different forms? The referral reason would help a lot-please share with us. Also, C-banding (for Yqh and number of centromeres) as well as  FISH with Y chromosome probes or arrayCGH would help to clarify the derivative Y. If you are to report it as it is without any more tests you should report it as a derivative chromosome. Also, try to find longer metaphases if possible. If that's a bone marrow sample do a peripheral blood karyotype for longer chromosomes.

That was my first thought too, isoYq. What is the patient sex and referral reason. 

Have you FISHed with a Y chromosome panel (X/Y subtelomeres, centromere and Yq probes, SRY)?

Its probably isochromosome , we have  a similar case years ago the patient came to the lab from infertility clinic .

We did FiSh analysis using the cytocell probe

Hi dear colleagues,

 

I studied a similar case (dicentric Y chromosome in a girl referred for testicular dysgenesis) many years ago and found a difference between heterochromatic fluorescent regions (QFQ-banding) in both their sizes and mitotic condensation patterns depending on the proximity to active/nonactive centromere (Kovaleva NV, Yakovlev AF. Morphology and mitotic condensation features of the human Y-chromosomes with structural rearrangements. Tsitologiia 1986, 28(12):1322-8). Unfortunately the girl's father was unavailable.

 

Since then, no such studied were carried out...
