This really proves just what I wrote about, because of the way it is set up, it has kindly informed me of my own message.

There is obviously something not quite right with the way that the web site is set up as messages should either go to a forum or directly to the person intended.
The way that it operates at present is to clog up the mail system.
It would be appreciated if the web master could sort this one out.

Many thanks

Ken

Hi Johnie.
Sorry I am not the chap you are looking for. I was with 29 Field Regt RA at Karaolos camp 1957-9.
I remember the jamming station, I guarded it a few times, it was next to 9inf. workshops.Re minesweepers at Famag. I went to Beruit Xmas 1958 for 3 days on minesweeper HMS Fiskerton as a reward for working hard.
              Regards

I was with Cyprus District Signal Regiment -August58 to May 59,then posted out, first Tripoli then Aden.I was working as one of the controllers to the various radar sites gathering plots ,along with Navy and Raf operators, consequently I have certain memories of events when I was on watch. The bombing of the Naafi in RAF Nicosia and the later arrival of "The Ladies" God bless them.Iwas also on watch when Maj Andrews and Gunner Jasper were mined on Elia track, I was asked to pass a message to 188 bty to inform them that "Sunray was down" a  sad but dramatic moment. I then moved to G Troop which was the jamming troop based at Laketamia along side the dog training unit and ammo depot, then detachments at Limmasol(there when Buddy Holly was killed)and then to Famagusta in the corner of Karolis Camp, under the tall aeriel masts. The navy lads were living in Worsley Bks and one I remember Des Fox was courting an RSM's daughter. When the peace arrived we packed our kit and took it to Camp K for backloading and we as a troop were dispersed,me to Libya some to Malta and the unlucky ones back to the Regiment. Now as the years go by I really think we in Cyprus have been forgotten, but that is the lot of us who served, and this probably goes back to the time Alfred the great. What matters is that we never forget those who went before us and those who are serving now.
