Although I am still awaiting a judge's decision on whether 2 (sub)races* of Yellow Wagtail can count as separate 'species' I can report the placing of the 7 teams - are you ready? The number of species seen is below the team members' names.
1st place - Shrikes - Stavros Christodoulides, Dan Rhoads, Lefkios Sergides and Melis Charlambides
119*
2nd place - The Wise Old Birds - Bill Stacey and Colin Richardson
108
3rd place - The Rollers - Clairie Papazoglou, Panicos Panayides and Michael Miltiadou
106
4th place - The Great Tits - Martin Hellicar, Jane Stylianou, Melpo Apostolidou and Eleni Zissimou
94
5th place - The Breckland Rovers - David and Jan Tomlinson, Richard and Poppy Carden
86
6th place - Souni Swifts - Bob and Linda Peel and June Neal
83*
1st place for our beginner bird watchers - The A Team (aka Cyprus Anon) - Athina Papatheodoulou, Georgia Michaelidou and Pantelitsa Nikolaou
26
I think we all deserve a well-earned round of applause - the loudest, of course, to the Shrike team. I look forward to seeing the winning team at the End of Season Get-together at The Kyrenia Restaurant, Avdimou on Saturday, 28 May. Everyone is invited to attend and see the award of the certificate - please contact Patricia Stavrou to book your place, if you are staying for lunch.
Thank you all again for your generous support and I do hope that you will encourage others to join in the 2012 Bird Race.
Most of the data is now on the Cypriaca database on Worldbirds.org against the one name Birdracers. I have put the team name in the notes box for each site visited. Once I have completed the few queried sites entries I will let you know the total number of birds seen, the overall species' total and how much was raised.
Very well done everyone.
