The BAIRD’S SANDPIPER Calidris bairdii present since 2-Dec at Lady’s Mile
was not seen today (first reported by Owen Roberts through cyprus-birds
Google forum, then broadcast on BirdLine). This bird was a juvenile and if
accepted would be the first record for Cyprus. The species originates from
north-east Siberia and Arctic North America and European autumn vagrants
occur most often in Britain, although it has also been recorded in Greece.

‘along the road, in reeds by the second access onto the marsh’. Worth

Gorge and we finally found a WALLCREEPER, after we walked right through the
narrowest part and just into the open area with cliffs about 100metres
beyond. The bird was very active on the right-hand cliff face and soon
disappeared and we couldn’t relocate it.

Sorry I haven't popped in but we were ill, then went away for Xmas then the
weather closed in and we were 9 inches of snow with treacherous roads.
Anyway to bring you up to date the cost of the Pioneer Beach suddenly
dropped by £80 so we are off tomorrow to my daughter's (if they can get out
of their drive and get up the hill) and on Wednesday of to SUNNY Cyprus.

March, reported to BirdLine late today. It was last seen feeding with
Greater Short-toed Larks in the bare graded earth field on the coast at the
extreme west end of the coastal track, next to the small beach car park.
However, it was not reported by birders visiting today. One wonders if it
was actually a Bar-tailed Desert Lark, which is more likely - one was last
seen in mid-Mar 2006 at Cape Drepanum.
