Swallow Nests

Hi all,

I was just asked an interesting question by one of my wife's uncles, which I was unable to answer: He built an open pavilion for over his patio, which would in principle be a great spot for swallows to build a nest. He'd love to encourage this - is there anything he can do or put to encourage Swallows building a nest?

Keep in mind that this is in urban Nicosia - I think it's within the Acropolis area. Maybe House Martins would be better attracted.
