Hi All,
To those of you who may have been thinking of travelling to visit the Avagas Gorge to try to spot the Wallcreeper that was seen yesterday. A word of warning. I managed to get to the narrow part of the gorge this morning, but because of the amount of water coming down you needed a decent pair of non slip boots and a stout stick to test the depth of water on the half dozen or more crossings through the water you have to make. I still ended up with water half way up my shins.!! The water is fast flowing in places so you have to pick your course with care hence the stick.
To start with, the bridge to the car park and the one just after will certainly get your feet wet.
There was a lot more heavy rain this afternoon particularly inland so I assume the situation has only got worse.
Have attached a few pictures of the conditions for your information. Sorry no pictures of the Wallcreeper as I did not see it.
1003, first bridge to car park that you can normally drive through. 1001, second bridge just off car park and the other two are up and down stream from the narrow part of the gorge.

Hi Dave

Many thanks for the update on the conditions at Avagas Gorge. I'll include a mention on BirdLine today and for the next few days. For those of you unfamiliar with BirdLine it is a service provided by BirdLine Cyprus where callers can listen to a recording of which species have been seen where in recent days, plus an opportunity to leave their own message to say what was interesting on their birding outing. The message tape is only 2 minutes per caller. The phone number is

25934076

I try to update the BirdLine regularly, especially during migration and in the event of a rarity being reported. I also include the sightings sent to me by the Recorder (if the species are still around).

If the line is in use, try again later. I look forward to hearing from new callers. Many thanks to the regular callers, your messages are much appreciate.

No sign of any Wallcreeper at Kensington Cliffs on Saturday, although a beautiful male Blue Rock Thrush was present, plus one Griffon Vulture, 4 Shags, Armenian and Yellow-legged Gulls, Black Redstarts, Sardinian and Cyprus Warblers.

Dear all,

just some coments to Wallcreeper observation in Avakas gorge. Untill my first observation of this unique bird in November I was lucky to watch him six time. With only one exeption I made my observation in upper part of gorge about 1 km upstream  from narrow part. There is dense vegetation of Arundo donax in bottom of gorge and then large rock wall on your left hand side. There  I made all my observation including observation of two birds.

Good luck and see you in Avakas gorge.
