Hi Gavin, Just curious with this pixel bender. An idea came to me after watching this, two things: once the photo is done do you save it as a normal jpeg and then could i use it in proshow producer as a Background, if so what format would it have to be in and do i change it to that format. thanks
Hello I have had no p[roblem loading the pixel bender and then downloading droste effect when I follow your directions but pixel bender filter all work but when I click droste effect it crashes photoshop any ideas I have students dying to use this but for the life of me cannot figure out what is wrong. Does droste need to be down loaded with extension manger? I also noticed Droste is a rather large file 15k verses the other filters in pixel bender are 3 to 5 k
I am having the same problem. I installed the pixel bender on photoshop cs 5.5. The other filters work. When I choose droste, photoshop crashes and tells me I have to restart. Did you ever figure out a solution to this? If so, I would love to know.
Van Gogh was a painter. What about his paintings are you thinking of imitating? Do you have a specific image example? I googled pixel bender and got varied results, so I'm not sure what exactly you want.
i have been hunting for something like pixel bender for years. there is nothing. the 'oil painting' filter is garbage. useless. it is unbelievable that a feature so popular would be trashed for no reason and not replaced with something better.
Pixel Bender Accelerator (PBA) is a native After Effects plugin that runs Pixel Bender filters using the GPU of your video card. Besides making them run very fast it also means you can run pixel bender files in CS6 and above!
I did the white balance in camera using one touch WB option which is what Olympus calls it in their DSLRs. Hold down the left button on the D-Pad and press the shutter to set the WB to whatever sky, grass or clouds. In the case with Tiffen#12 filter I used grass to set the WB. The camera saves the setting until you decide to overwrite by taking another picture using a different filter or to something else like sky or clouds. The results are always the same light green sky and lavender leaves.
Using your parameters I was able to get much better image than me randomly moving sliders around. However the preview window in Pixel Bender displays much nicer colors than the final output after the running the filter.
Pixel bender Preview window
Final Output
The image is very usable after toning down the red and smoothing out the sky in Photoshop. I wonder if my using the Adobe RGB workspace in my images is resulting in the different colors I see the Preview window from the final over saturated colors I get after running the IRG filter?
Update:
I just ran the filter using an Image saved from the original RAW using the SRGB color work space and results colors from the preview window match the final output. The Adobe RGB image was resulting in an over saturated image particularly in the reds which resulting in having to color correct the reds to bring back detail in the Pine trees leaves in the above image.
Update2:
Based on parameters Infrachrome posted in the comment above this one some slight tweaking is needed for different images. Though I attribute this either to the pixel bender filter operating differently than the program Infrachrome is using or human error, namely me, which is the most likely cause.

Hi UVIR,
I didn't use Pixelbender (I downloaded it only a few days ago and haven't found the right combination yet) in any picture I posted, but a photoshop action I created, using mostly the channel mixer and color balance. I've never been good at mathematics, so the way I went to my algorithm is everything but scientific. I started with my aerochrome pictures and tried to get as close as possible to their look. The result is satisfying for me in most of my digital pictures now, but some details could still be improved (mostly skin tones, hair colors). I also observed the choice of lens is very influent on the results I get. Good with a canon 28-105 II USM, bad with my Sigma 12-24 (lot of fringing).
By the way, looking at photostreams, I also noted a lot of variations in aerochrome results. Each of us had or still has his favourite combinations of camera, lens and filters, and according to this, his own idea of what a digital EIR picture should look like. For myself, I use to shoot aerochrome on a Bronica SQ-Ai, with zenzanon lenses, and wether BW023+CPL or Hoya G or a cheap deep orange filter (which seems close to wratten 22). So I worked on that basis, which is very different, for instance, of Oldoinyo 's 525LP dichroic.

H.H. pictures
I find that the settings I use for the pixelbender filter are different for every picture I take with the Tiffen#12 filter. Sometimes when I'm processing several Tiffen#12 images the settings are saved during the same Photoshop session wont work with other images unless they were shot under the same lighting conditions and exposure settings. In my experience they doesn't seem to be a universal settings for all images shot with FS camera and Tiffen#12 filter.
After I ran the picture through pixel bender I added a levels adjustment layer for contrast and a hue/saturation layer. In the Hue/sat dialog box I chose Yellow from the small drop down menu and move the slider to change the yellow skin of the women to something more flesh colored.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for then info . I been using a temp 2100 but the tint is slightly different for each photo which is why I've been having to use different settings with the IRG pixelbender filter. I'll stick with the same WB settings in the Raw files and report back.

Tom Beddard is providing a downloadable pixel bender plug-in for creating little planets that will work in After Effects, Photoshop, Or the Pixel Bender Toolkit. Check out this page for the download, and how to use it!
I love your oil Painting. I downloaded the pixel bender. But having trouble installing it in PS5. It says, unable to install, requires 64 bit Photo version in range of including 12.0 and 12.0. I checked my version and it is 12.0 and 64 bit. I do have Windows 7 and it says to right click on the Ext. Manager and click run as administrator. When I right click on the Ext. Manager, no run shows up. Could you help me please?
