Youth Activists Pick Their Favorite Candidates
Special Pre-Election Report From the Creative Youth News Team

All Saints Day, 2008

The NRYA-OC [Orange County], the most politically active chapter
of the National Youth Rights Association, has endorsed Cynthia
McKinney for President. Cynthia McKinney is a strong supporter
of youth rights. While in Congress, she worked to fight for
youth issues. Both Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader support
lowering the voting age. McKinney is the candidate with a proven
track record. McKinney is also the only current Presidential
candidate who has opposed the war and the Patriot Act and funding
for both in Congress. Both Barack Obama and John McCain have
funded the war effort and voted to continue the war and renew the
Patriot Act. Unlike McCain and Obama, McKinney opposed the theft
of $859 billion for Wall Street. Because of what is being termed
the Obama Sell-Out, many youth will be unable to afford or get
loans for college next year.

The choice of Cynthia McKinney is very popular with those not old
enough to vote. It's not just the government that won't let
youth vote their choices. The number one complaint students
across the county have regarding straw polls in their school is
that the straw polls just list two candidates and exclude votes
for most candidates on the ballot. This gives an unfair
advantage to Barack Obama as the current Administration and the
Republicans have become very unpopular.

Dennis Kucinich (Ohio 10th District), Maxine Waters (California,
35th District), and Jackie Speier (California, 12th District)
firmly support lowering the voting age and are popular
Congressional favorites. Youth activists also like Jim McDermott
(Washington, 7th District), Pete Stark (California, 13th
District) and Ron Paul (Texas, 14th District), all of whom have
joined Kucinich, Waters and Speier in their opposition to the war
and the Patriot Act. Bob Filner (California, 51st Congressional
district) and Robert Wexler (Florida, 19th District) have joined
Kucinich in opposing an anti-youth Bush Administration. Wexler
has worked to move Kucinich's legislation to impeach George W.
Bush and Dick Cheney through the House Judiciary Committee.

Candidates Christina Avalos (California, 40th District) and
Steve Young (California, 40 District) have promised to introduce
legislation to lower the voting age once in Congress. They are
strong favorites among youth. Christina Avalos has been included
young Americans in strong positions on her campaign.. Cindy
Sheehan (California, 8th District) is another youth favorite.
She camped outside Bush's ranch to find out why he lied America
into a war that killed her son. She is fighting to replace Nancy
Pelosi, a vicious opponent of youth rights. If Pelosi remains in
office, she is expected to continue her agenda of strip-searching
children and imprisoning them in institutions where have no
education and no rights. Pelosi's family runs San Francisco and a
great deal of voter fraud is expected, there.

For the new Congress, youth activists are pulling for Dennis
Kucinich to be made the Speaker of the House. Kucinich, the man
with a plan to save the economy and end the war, will work to
lower the voting and the drinking age. Though McKinney is a long
shot for President, together, they would fight to protect and
guarantee rights and privileges to young Americans.

In the California assembly, Young Americans continue to back
Karen Bass and Lori Saldana, both supporters of a lower voting
age.

Sukhee Kang, mayoral candidate for Irvine and Mark Ridley Thomas,
supervisorial candidate for Los Angeles County, both support
lowering the voting age. Youth activists are supporting them for
their current positions and plan to support them when they run
for higher office.

Paul Koretz, candidate for Los Angeles City Council (09) is
another supporter of youth rights and of lowering the voting age.
While hoping he will run for Congress, youth activists will be
supporting him in his bid for City Council.

Youth Activists strongly support California's Proposition 2
(healthy farms) and oppose Propositions 4 (which forces teen rape
victims to obtain consent from possible rapists for abortions)
and Proposition 8 (which codifies discrimination against a
segment of society).

Because of media censorship of good candidates, the youth do not
expect to get all that they seek. However, youth activists have
a long history of getting the majority of their candidates
elected.
