hi there

several users (although not me for some reason) are seeing this output when running cylc commands...

-bash-4.2$ cylc scan

Process Process-1:

gaierror: [Errno -2] Name or service not known

WARNING, scan timed out, no result for the following:

 cylc01:43003

u-av818 [username]@w-cylc01.maui.niwa.co.nz:43091

as you can see the `cylc scan` command is working in that it outputs one suite, u-av818 but there is a lot of other stuff going on too.

has anyone else seen this or know where it's coming from?

thanks

jonny

Hi Jonny,

"Name or service not known" - I suspect those users are trying to scan non-existent suite hosts, probably configured in their global config file.  Can you send me an example (i.e. who) via NIWA email, and I'll take a look tomorrow (I was away on leave today).  (I should probably consider a cleaner warning in case of this error though...)

Hilary

Hi Jonny,

Next release will have clearer error messages, but users should still avoid scanning non-existent hosts.
