This is an exploration trip, we're going to scout out a neat place to
camp somewhere near Zigzag.
One camping option involves a 2-3 mile hike along a stream.
Pack a backpack, or some way to carry your stuff off your bike. Panniers
with shoulder straps should be OK.
The ride will be about 45 miles with 3,000ft of climbing, plus 2-3 mile
of hiking with 200-300 ft of climbing.
Dates: Saturday, August 16th through Sunday, August 17th
Departure Time: Arrive by 8:00 AM, Leaving 8:30AM SHARP
Departure location:Gresham (registered riders will recieve start location)
Arrival back in Gresham: late evening Sunday
This is a fully self-supported ride. This is *NOT* a beginner
ride. We are not discouraging beginners from coming, just be aware of
the skilled nature of this trip.
Bring a light. It will get very dark at night - there will be no
nearby light sources, and finding your way to a suitable sanitary
location at night could be problematic.
Bring a small shovel and some toilet paper (unscented,
biodegradable) - one of the campsite options will have NO toilet. Talk
to me about proper "disposal" techniques.
Bring rope to hang your food. We did not have any issues last
year, but there may be animals that might try to get into your food, and
while rare, the Mt Hood forest is home to black bear.
