Hello!

I am thinking of riding from Austin to Houston over Thanksgiving break.  Looking for any experienced riders who have traveled through that area either for the MS150 or on their own to provide any suggestions on the exact route to take.  Also any other tips on this kind of ride is welcome and appreciated.  I have not been on a trek of this magnitude before, but I have gone on a 2 day ride from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv in Israel this summer, which is about half the distance.

Thank you!

Good luck with your ride.  I've ridden Houston to Austin a few times, but always as part of an organized event.  Route was well marked by organizers.  So I was inattentive to the route in any way that could be helpful to you.  Make sure you take back roads or only ones with large shoulders if traffic is significant.  Both Austin and Houston are heavily populated urban areas.  Risks are typically motor vehicles.

God's speed,

I think you can access the MS150 route on the Internet. That is a good starting point as it mainly takes back roads. Out of La Grange would take the route that does not go on 71. I would also make sure I went through Bastrop state park rather than 71 again. It is very hilly, but pretty and very few cars.

Good luck!
