The City of Fresno's Ride into History event, in celebration of the official founding of the City of Fresno 125 years ago, is scheduled for October 9th, 9-11am.

I need some volunteer helpers who are willing to lead groups on a short tour of downtown historical properties. About 5 miles, with 4 stops of 5 to 10 minutes each. You will be the ride leader escorting a small group of cyclists from stop to stop. No historical knowledge is necessary, because at each stop there will be a docent who will give the group a small speech about the historical property.

This fun and interesting tour of downtown Fresno will take you on a laid-back course that visits these local landmarks:
  • Fresno's Historic Water Tower (start and finish location)
  • The historic St. John's neighborhood and the Meux Home
  • The Fresno Brewery, and an excursion into the railroad-crossed industrial side of town
  • The Valley Lahvosh Bakery and the Armenian Church
  • The Fulton Mall (open to cyclists since 2009!)
It will be necessary to know how to ride safely, and to set a good example for the cyclists in your group, by following all the rules of the road (the road will be open during this event, but Saturday mornings in downtown Fresno are usually quiet and peaceful). To ensure that we're all of one mind with regards to what it means to ride safely in traffic, the League Cycling Instructors of the FCBC would like to offer all volunteer ride leaders the opportunity to attend our next Traffic Skills 101 seminar, which will take place one or two weekends before the October 9th event, at no charge. Successful participants earn a certificate in safe cycling at the conclusion of the seminar. Volunteers with such a certificate will be preferred.

We are planning either 3 hours each on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday format, or 4 hours on Friday night and 5 hours on Saturday. Let me know if you have a preference, and please reply to this email or give me a call if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Thanks!
