3 Bikes have been stolen from the Eccleshill Area in Bradford,
recently.

Details of the bikes, including photos are here:
http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=58743

They are quite distinctive as the rider is 6'7".

Obviously if anyone can help...

Hi,

I've just been sent an update to your link
(http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=58743). Having read this we
are concerened that, if true according to the link the Police can not get
the seller of the stolen bicycles details from e-bay. I have e-mailed an
Inspector that I am dealing with asking him to confirm if it is true. Once I
receive a reply we will let you know what is saaid.

Cycle re Cycle are currently working with the University of Bradford
Students Union and the Police, one of the areas is by our holding a Bicycle
Security event at the Students Union. In addition we have also got the Union
to put a stolen bike page on their web site, when a bike is reported to us
as being stolen (we have a shop on Campus) we produce a wanted poster and
the Union distribute it around Campus and put it in the Bradford Student
newspaper.I sent them details and pictures of your stolen bikes.

It seems ludicrous if the Police can not get such information from ebay, I
wonder if I put an item on ebay saying that I had committed an offence would
the Police be able to get my details from them?

Tom, please can you put this on the agenda for the next BSpoke meeting as I
feel that this must be talked about?

Regards

Chris

Hi, the police are just being lazy I'm afraid. eBay will co-operate fully with the police if they approach them through the correct channels.

This is from the eBay website regarding the procedure for reporting stolen goods:
"If you see an item on eBay that you believe is stolen, your best course is to contact law enforcement immediately. Under eBay's privacy rules, our lawyers will provide important records about pending and past listings with an official request from law enforcement officials. Please inform the police officer handling the case that eBay will be pleased to cooperate in the investigation, and ask the officer to contact eBay via the Law Enforcement area in the Safety Centre. It is important that these methods of contact be reserved for law enforcement use only, as it enables us to respond quickly in case of emergencies. Emails/faxes directed to these areas that are not from law enforcement will be routed to the appropriate mailbox or individual accordingly and may cause delays in response time."

A friend of mine in London managed to prevent a sale of her stolen bike on eBay so it does work if the police can be bothered.

Cheers,
Ang

Perhaps whoever the bikes belonged to should contact http://ukcyclerules.com/ who is a barrister and keen cyclists for their comments/suggestions?

Hopefully our e-mail to the Police & a reporter we know at the T&A may bring about some positive action!
Regards
