I completely agree with Sue's comment, towns are for people and it's
possible that with the loss of many high street shops that more
buildings in town centres may become repurposed as residential
accomodation; walking and cycling will be need to be prioritised as the
main mode of local transport.
Those given charge of transport policies need only look across the North
Sea to Denmark and Netherlands to see that if authorities create safe,
easy to use routes for pedestrians and cyclists, giving them priority
over motor vehicles at intersections they will be used! Add to that the
health benefits of active travel..........
