Due to Greater Anglia cycle policy, I have got my hands on a used folding bike: a Dahon Mu. Part of the tightening mechanism is broken and it's unsafe to ride, so I am repairing it. I have bought a kit of spare parts from Evans and I have disassembled the entire mechanism. All that is, excpet for the stainless steel hinge pin itself.
On the plus side I have all the new parts, so I know exactly what I am trying remove. I can see those clever Dahon people thought to include a thread inside the pin, to help remove it.
I have one soft metal machine screw that goes in, but I am not 100% sure of the fit, and it's too soft to really pull hard. I am worried I'll pull the head off, making my problem worse.
Does anyone have any other hints or experience for removing the hinge pin?
Kevin is out of town or I'd be over his place in a flash!
Best wishes
Alex Oldman
Hi Alex
Back on Saturday afternoon if that helps. The hinges are prone to problems especially if ridden incorrectly adjusted.
Happy to sort it for you after I am back.
Best wishes
Kevin
