A few of us at SCC are in the process of organizing a TEDx Talk at SCC to replace our annual TechTools day in February.  Because none of us on the committee has attended a TED event, our audience will be limited to only 100 people.  We would like to use the SCC Performing Arts Center for this event which has seating for 299 people. Limiting our event to only 100 would mean that 2/3 of the seats would be empty. which means we might have to turn away a lot of folks who would like to attend.

According to the TEDx rules we need a sponsor who has attended a TED event so that we can exceed our 100 person cap.  Here's the TEDx rule:

Attendance: Up to 100 individuals may attend your event. (Only individuals who have attended an official TED conference in person may organize an event with more than 100 attendees. I.e., the primary license holder -- the individual whose name is on the application form -- must have attended a TED conference.

In short, we are looking for someone who is employed by MCCCD and who has attended a TED event to act as a sponsor so that we can have more than 100 people attend the event.

Stay well,

If I recall correctly, I attended a Tedx conference with 3 people from SCC. It think it was Dustin, Lisa Young, and Donna G. Maybe Cheryl Colan as well. You might just have the person you need on your own campus.

My thoughts, however, are that you might want to consider keeping the limit to 100 people. I know you want to accommodate as many interested people as possible, but I really like the small intimate feeling of the TED talks held at ASU downtown. It might just be the space too, as there may have been more than 100 people there, but the arrangement made it feel like everyone had a great seat right next to the stage. It was definitely intimate.

Charles...

Coop is correct. She and myself and Lisa Young (and a few others) attended a TedX talk downtown last year. Not sure if TedX attendance qualifies but if so, I would be happy to be the "sponsor".

I do think Coop has a good point though. Might want to consider starting small the first time and then expanding if all goes well.
