Hey All-

Thanks to Moya, Fallon, Julia, Adele, Deepali, and Alexis for making it to the technomagic meeting. Apologies to Intisar and L for not providing more deets so y'all could attend!

Check out Moya's pictures from the session at Emory's Center for Interactive Teaching!

The meeting began with us trying to answer the question, "What features does a cyberquilting website need?" See the list we generated here.

But as we discussed this piece, it became apparent that before we asked what kind of website we needed, we needed to know what our organizing needed. What do we and our movements need that we aren't getting from existing technology?

Off the tops of our heads we said we needed a huge central calendar that had all of the upcoming events and important activist birthdays and historical happenings in one place. A calendar we could search by region and topic and import and export events to other calendar programs.

We also returned to Lex's idea from the AMC around a classifieds or craig's list for radical women of color. The idea behind this is that we have what we need we just don't know who has it! This list would work like craig's list but would give us access to each other and our resources in a real way.

We also discussed that we wanted to be able to see the work that people are doing on the ground in their own communities and amplify that work so that we don't get discouraged and have models of the way folks are making it happen.

Based on this we see our next moves including:
  • Julia ad Fallon Providing more detailed notes from the session
  • Cyber expert huddle including Julia, Deepali, and Sarah to figure out what of the list we made exists, needs to be research, and created
  • What do we need that we aren't getting from existing technology? Email the list and say what you think our movements need from existing technology by February 1st. We'll use this list as we dream about what a Cyberquilting website needs.
Looking forward to staying in touch!

Woohoo!  So excited about next steps and hearing feedback and ideas from L, Intisar, Stacey, Sarah and Annalise!
For the history books...I'm pretty sure the RWOC craigslist idea came from a number of folks in the Cyberquilting/SPEAK/INCITE brainstorm at the AMC...but if y'all decide to name it Lex's List....I'll be honored and assume it's because of my shining socialist ethic.

Happy solstice loves!

I am writing these words as a route map
an artifact for survival...

History is not kind to us
we restitch it with living
past memory   forward
into desire
into the panic    articulation
of want   without having
or even the promise of getting.

And I dream of our coming together
encircled   driven
not only by love
but by lust for a working tomorrow
the flights of this journey
mapless   uncertain
and necessary as water.
