hello, hello!here are the draft notes! gimme some feedback!caroline will send out one of those meeting time matrices to figure out when the next call will be (thank you caroline!)talk to all you fabulous people soon,abigail_____________________________________________________present: caroline, hena, max, manju, abigail, lydia, divad, jordan, lexAGENDAtent reportback from lydiamax's conversation shareworkshops/track at AMC, USSFtent pitchTENT REPORTBACK FROM LYDIA-contacted someone from national planning committee1. specific logistics of getting a tent is still being worked out. lydia has email contact for the folks in charge of this.2. looks like tent space will be located in Hart Plaza, a couple blocks from the center of the forum. there will be musical and cultural events in the plaza, hopefully it will draw folks into the space.3. we are still waiting on how much it will cost, what groups can get tents, etc.MAX'S CONVERSATION SHARE-the sense he got is that USSF is probably going to be looking for collaborations for tents. last time tents were around themes. it is a question whether they will allow a coalition or network of groups to have a tent.-can we make up an issue? is a Liberation Exploration Station an issue?-healing & wellness working group had a tent space at the last USSF-there was an outreach meeting last weekend in Detroit; maybe we will have more info from them after this-there is also a National Planning Committee meeting in a couple of weekends.what if we tried to get something together and could pitch it to them then? i.e. here's this liberation exploration station, so maybe they could create tent parameters for what we are trying to do-->maybe we could try to mold the tent pitch that we have and send it to folks before the NPC meeting--we are not trying to be the health & healing tent, but our own unique entityTENT PITCH-we have a start but it needs some tweaking!-lex, manju, abigail and caroline are interested in helping out with the tent pitch.-manju is also interested in fleshing out the budget.-it will be made into a GOOGLE DOCUMENT!-Hena gave us a little info about where the tents are going to be: Hart Plaza is a huge outdoor space, next to detroit villa & GM towers. great space to have a huge tent, there will be other social forum activities there as well. it will be a great location!-perhaps we could find some potential collaborators and list them-we could also mention past collaboratorsWORKSHOPS/TRACK AT AMC, USSFAllied Media Conference-AMC list of tracks: media & community based strategies for safety, queer & trans media, reimagining sustainability & eco justice, visual resistance, communication strategies & the Prison Industrial complex, performance art, radio, spanish language, DIY technology, INCITE!, popular education for palestine, community caregivers media strategies, media policy, disability justice & the arts, indigenous media (jordan spoke fast! this might not be complete but he is going to email it out!)-we talked about having a workshop or two at the AMC but don't have energy for a track here!what do we want to achieve at the AMC? which track fits that best?-one thing we could bring is a contrast between local & national media. we could represent a national media project and what goes along with that.-is there something focused on written media? could we have a media writing workshop?-max's concern: this isn't the crux of what we do so it seems kind of random. however hands on workshops are popular-jordan has done stuff about doing media as part of a movement. this seems to be very relevant to left turn.-jena 6/jersey 4 panel has been a LT workshop that was very popular in the past-another angle: what's a story that we have helped publicize in the last year that we could gather a workshop around?-what about a science fiction thing? that seems like it would be popular!-LT is a mysterious entity to lots of people. perhaps we could develop a Left Turn 101, breaking down the key ingredients of LT/demystifying how folks can get things into the magazine. how to get connected to LT, why it's so important that organizers and activists are chronicling our movement instead of academics.-LT has been around for almost 10 years, what are the political concepts that guide it? how does it work?-the problem is that we might think it seems too self-promotional & be kind of shy about it.-part of it a how to/101 thing, part a political concepts thing-maybe we could even have everyone in the room write a 1 paragraph story and post it on a blog that day or something. have a snapshot of all the different kinds of work that people are up to. model what we are talking about.-this might even force us to be more transparent! if we had a "how to be a part of left turn" thing and post it on our website it would make it more clear for everybody-very important to talk about why it is crucial that movement folks do the writing/media work**Manju will consolidate these fragments into a paragraph to send out to the decision listservUS Social Forum-RWIOT is working on developing a workshop for the USSF that we would be a part of if we want to be.goal: try to get ourselves & audience to think beyond day to day campaigns & think about a vision for a future societyquestions: what is the vision for a new society? given the econ crisis what ar ethe ways to get us to a new society?neighborhood metaphor: what does the neighborhood look like? what is our vision for the new society? what could we be doing today to build toward the neighborhood we are dreaming of? there does not have to be just one kind of house but lots of houses to make up the neighborhood!-if you have ideas for a workshop forward it to the group! we could get in touch with other LT folks, people who have contributed to LT in the past, etc. if people have the interest & passion we can make stuff happen-->at the end of last call, we talked about getting a left turn house/apartment as a place where we could all crash to make it more accessible to LT folks. this could be a lot cheaper than hotels for everyone!**Hena will email Will Copeland to figure out if he might have more info for that
