Top of the week: Ghana: Globacom's mobile licence and Nigeria's strategic economic interests

Recently, Nigerians woke up to gladdening media reports of the decision by the Ghanaian government to award the nation's sixth mobile licence to Nigeria's second national operator, Globacom Limited, promoted by businessman, Mike Adenuga Jnr.
Hitherto, Ghana's telecoms regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA) had announced it was offering the licence for sale through a "beauty contest" to up the ante in the telecoms market and boost competition in the hope that these would further raise service efficiency, enhance network capacity and ensure affordable service to the people of Ghana.


Techology Times 2008 Mid-Year Telecoms Market Review

Celtel flags off NCC-ordered compensation to subscribers today

Celtel Nigeria says it will today flag off a phased implementation of the N175 free airtime ordered by telecoms regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to compensate subscribers on its network for poor service quality. The operator says it has over 14 million subscribers.
