What does it mean when file has # # surrounding it?

I use SFTP to connect to a linux box. in a directory, I have files such as:

ana_xx.h

ana_yy.h

ana_zz.h.

Later, I changed some text in ana_xx.h, and I found there is a new file #ana_xx.h#, coexist with ana_xx.h. Can anyone tell me what is the pound symbol for? A bookmark?
