Up to a quarter of computers on the net may be used by cyber criminals in so-called botnets. Botnets are made up of large numbers of computers that hackers have brought under their control after infecting them with so-called Trojan virus programs.
Governments to discuss internet's openness
Government officials have to go on the offensive to explain the values of free trade and globalization and to confront terrorist movements. It is reported that there are 6,000 Web sites supporting the al-Qaida network.
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said openness of the Internet and other media can work both ways - either to promote moderation or to help extremists.
China 's intention to "purify" internet
China's ruling Communist Party vowed to "purify" the Internet. China looks to ensure it keeps control of internet's users.
In 2006, China's Internet users grew by 26 million, or 23.4 percent, year on year, to reach 10.5 percent of the total population. The vast majority of these users have no access to overseas Chinese Web sites offering uncensored opinion and news critical of the ruling party.
