to CyberClassics: Romeo and Juliet
Because most adolescents who read "Romeo and Juliet" have had no prior exposure to the concept of tragedy in literature, they often express frustration (even annoyance) that Romeo and Juliet die as a result of what students view as a series of completely avoidable errors and misunderstandings. How would you explain tragedy in literature to adolescent students encountering it for the first time and do so in a way that would convert their frustration into understanding that they might apply when they next read and see other tragedies ?
