With the lid off the Xponse racket, the Left Front government has
decided to rope in business chambers to prevent cyber crime from
operating in the IT hub in Salt Lake. State minister for information
and technology Debesh Das told Newsline that the government alone is
helpless in preventing such crime. The act which has provisions to
tackle the problem is yet to be enforced in the state. "So we want to
work together with the different chambers. The government is now
working on a strategy to rope in the chambers," said Das.
The move comes in wake of the Narcotics Control Bureau busting a
Kolkata -US international online narcotics racket operating in the
state IT sector in Salt Lake's sector V. Sanjay Kedia, CEO and owner
of Xponse IT Services Private Limited and Xponse Technologies was
arrested recently for running a multi-million dollar illegal narco
trade through online pharmacies from Kolkata.
A part of the Chambers initiative already in place, two programmes
have been conducted at the IT sector regarding cyber security laws,
cyber crimes, modes of prevention developing a consensus among the
various IT companies operating in Kolkata and Salt Lake.
Representatives of various IT companies, employees, managers, call
centre executive and others associated with the IT industry benefit
from such programmes.
