VSNL ESPIONAGE CASE
February 09, 2007, Techworld.com
The Mumbai police will shortly be asking net-based e-mail service providers MSN and Yahoo to track down the mailing history of VSNL employee Prashant Indulkar, who has been accused of leaking crucial information to a rival company.
The police said the crucial information was also leaked to the media, which resulted in business loss to the company. They wanted Indulkar's custody extended as the stolen VSNL property was yet to be recovered and investigation under the Information Technology Act, 2000, was under way.
Based on forensic reports, police said they would get reports and IP addresses from Indulkars e-mail service provider MSN, from whose Hotmail account he had sent mails to Reliance Communications executive Gaurav Wahi's Yahoo account.
Indulkar admitted that he was sending information to Wahi and the police are now trying to establish the link between the two. Indulkar, however, denied in the court that he had siphoned off money from company accounts.
Indulkar, secretary to VSNL Managing Director N Srinath, was arrested on February 1 for siphoning off foreign exchange worth Rs 8.7 lakh from VSNL.
The company filed a fresh FIR yesterday accusing him of leaking information to VSNLs competitors.
