For instance, the DPS MMS case involving two students of the school,
which shocked the country; yet ore than two years since the case first
came to light, nobody has been punished.
Thus, now the government has prepared a draft of amendments to the
Indian Penal Code, which proposes two years imprisonment for anyone
sending obscene content.
In fact, a new chapter has been added to the IPC to define what
constitutes violation of privacy.
The chapter pertains to those who intentionally film private parts of
a person without their permission and then transmit them through
multimedia for others to see.
Such MMS senders face not just two years in prison but also a fine of
Rs 2 lakh."What's very encouraging is that the new law makes it
technology neutral; so while the earlier IT Act was ambiguous whether
it applied to cellphones, now it is very clear," said Subimal
Bhattacharji, Cyber expert.
