The Kerala State IT Mission will organise training programmes for
Government officials, the police and the public in detection and
prevention of cyber crimes.

The programme targets Government Secretaries, directors and other
higher-level officials who are constantly using IT infrastructure for
e-governance. It will prepare the officials to ensure integrity and
confidentiality of transactions across the network and make them aware
of different types of cyber crimes and methods to defeat them. The
programme will also cover the use of digital signatures.

The first workshop under the programme will be held here on February
23. Heads of departments and IT implementing officers are expected to
participate.

One-day awareness programmes will be held for the police in all
districts. These programmes will prepare the police in handling cyber
crimes and seizing digital evidence properly.

The programme is being launched, as there had been a spurt of cyber
crime activities such as e-mail harassment, defamation through Web and
document forgery in the State recently. Lack of awareness to the
police personnel in handling cyber crimes often results in improper
handling the digital evidence.

The mission also proposes to develop a cyber crimes portal and set up
a call centre. The portal is intended to provide information on
various cyber crimes, reporting, handling and investigation of such
crimes. It will also provide different cyber forensic tools.

The call centre will receive reports about cyber crimes from the
public and provide help and guidance in handling the situation.
