Dear CYBCOM Colleagues—apologies for cross-posting—

You may be interested in a free symposium series called “Unspoken Continuities”, an exploration of the consequences of the split between Cybernetics and AI that occurred in the 1950s, and the constructive possibilities for a “re-braiding” of the two fields.

Symposium #1 Video & Transcript — Open for Comments — plus other Materials

Here is the transcript of the video from Symposium #1: “The Split,”

The full set of materials relating to Symposium #1 is here.

Symposium #2: “Representation & Process” on June 24, 2026 at 12:00 EDT

In Symposium #2 we consider the most fundamental division in describing or building any AI system by focusing on the re-braiding strands of “Representation & Process”. We will examine how these 2 core strands are manifest in Cybernetics and Classical AI, and how they might be re-braided in the context of current AI systems.

We are joined by Dr. Richard Lewis, John R. Anderson Collegiate Professor of Psychology, Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Michigan, and PhD student of Allen Newell and Herbert Simon.

If you wish to get calendar invites and future emails about later events, please fill out this form, which also offers joining to the online conversation list.

With best regards,

Paul Pangaro, PhD & Jill Fain Lehman, PhD
