The Art, Media, and Cybernetics Working Group (AMC) at the American Society of Cybernetics (ASC) is pleased to announce its first series of events in March and April 2025. This series will critically engage with the theme of cybernetic ontology, examining its development as an epistemology, practice, and method through the lens of performative artifacts and system-based art and design practices.
For our first event, we are honored to host a conversation with Roy Ascott, a pioneering artist, theorist, and educator whose integration of cybernetics, art, and pedagogy has shaped contemporary and telematic art.
Date: March 23, 2025 - 10 AM EDT
We invite scholars, practitioners, and students to join us in this critical discourse. All events will be hosted virtually via ASC Zoom and recorded for archival purposes.

About the Art, Media, & Cybernetics Working Group
The Art, Media, & Cybernetics Working Group (AMC) is interested in exploring the evolving intersections of cybernetics, art, and science, building on mid-20th-century movements where artists and cyberneticians pioneered conceptual and collaborative approaches. Through panel discussions, online events, and a growing index of artists, theorists, and key concepts, we examine how cybernetic thinking continues to shape art and media in today’s technological and ecological landscape.
We aim to advance cybernetics in artistic practices, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and connect students, practitioners, and researchers in rethinking art as a reflexive system. Join us in shaping new conversations at the intersection of systems thinking and creative practice!
