Click on http://groups.google.com/group/cybafaeries/web/oh-dear - or
copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't work.
So here's the post that disappeared into cybaspace - I really should
read the instructions to this forum some time lol
=======================================
Firstly you've done the right thing and start a new thread, to sort
it. I'm sure you won't be the last person with some questions :)
For others reading, Kane's got a Mac OSX, and Google has 'issues' with
macs, which I'm sure go back to some Silicon Valley feud over a girl,
who probably rejected both of them, so lets try some ideas to get
around it.
We only get 100 MB storage for image files for the group which would
be used up in the blink of an eye, so it's reserved for admin
purposes, such as the Nicholas Building Arts banner etc.
With external links to online picture hosts such as Photobucket,
Flickr etc, all we need to do is insert a link, and we can then post
1000's of images.
-------------------------------------------------------------
With photobucket there's 3 main links for each pic.
These are 3 with link to my cybafaerie avatar used on this forum
URL Link: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e27/cybafaeries/fe-oh250avatar.jpg
HTML Tag <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img
src="http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e27/cybafaeries/fe-
oh250avatar.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image
Hosting"></a>
IMG Code [IMG]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e27/cybafaeries/fe-
oh250avatar.jpg[/IMG]
For the PAGES section of this forum, it's actually a web page. The
rest of the forum is a different format, and only uses text, so you
can send emails of posts etc.
So the URL link is the one you use to copy and paste into your web
page. The other links are for blogs and other sorts of forums, but not
this forum.
So
1. Click the image icon in the tool bar of the PAGE
2. Click the URL button in the pop up window. It normally defaults to
the 'upload image' button. Which we can't use cause that goes direct
to the forum storage - not enough space, and it's been disabled by
admin.
3. After you've copied and pasted your URL link into the pop up
display, you wait a few seconds for the image to be displayed.
4. Once the image displays, you then click the 'Add Image' button at
the bottom of the popup. and the image will appear on your page - in
theory.
POSSIBLE PROBLEMS
1. We've just discovered when trying to upload one of Kane's pics that
Google won't accept TIFF images (a Mac variety of GIFF) There will be
an alert notice telling you this, saying the file format is not
accepted
2. JPEGS and a bunch of others are okay.
3. The file may be too large, say 2MB or larger. Generally pics
online need to be under 200k.
3.1. You can resize your main image with photoshop/image ready or
similar to quite a decent file size and resolution to suit online.
3.2 Then upload then to photobucket etc,
3.3 The copy and paste the link onto your page.
It's tedious, but think of it as an online backup for your images that
can then be used on this forum, or linked to your emails, or copied by
others online etc.
So try the above steps, and let me know how you go, and where you're
getting stuck. This Google forum is still in BETA mode (trial) so
there may be an actual glitch which they may be working on as we
speak.
If we can pinpoint the step where you get stuck we can sort it from
there.

FREE SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS
CNET is a geek site with hoards of software for every type of computer
and OS versions etc. A lot of the programs are FREE, some have trail
periods or optimised versions with a lot of basic applications such as
image resizing & file type conversions. Or you can buy direct and
download. They've got games, business software, design tools, anti-
virus programs and heaps of other toys.
They're a religiously fanatical bunch of geeks, and hate malware and
nasties like that, so all the software is clean, and there's good user
reviews and comment for each product.
There's good search filters if you're unfamiliar with software, and
you can select price ranges as well as Freeware, or Free trial etc.
Some of the categories have hundreds of programs.

The only way I've found to correct after you've hit the 'send' post
button, is remove the original post and repost. that is if you can be
bothered or saved the original post :) Oh well,
ain't technology grand :)))
I can highly recommend Avant if you want an alternative to IE and
Mozilla. It's free, award winning, has pop and ad blockers, virus
filters etc etc. I have IE Mozilla and Avant all running side by side
on my computer for testing when I do website builds. I use avant for
my general day to day biz, it's faster than Mozilla.
The only Avant draw back is some large static gif images don't display
from time to time. With Mozilla it doesn't display certain border and
frame characteristics, giving a more spartan appearance to sites, and
tends to be a bit brutish. Fine for techs who don't care about
apperances, their own included. But there you are, these are the cards
we're dealt with. hehe
here's avant's site. Yet it's worth a 10 sec browse
