Dear All My Money trainees and other fans of financial education,

I have just learned of three new opportunities that you and your clients may want to know about.

A Certificate Program about US Immigration

Extension is offering a series of workshops on The U.S. Immigration System and How It Works, on Wednesdays starting June 3, 2009. This course is a primer for individuals who work with immigrants and want to know:

·         how the U.S. Immigration System works,

·         immigration terminology,

·         the benefits and limits of various immigration visas and statuses,

·         how a person’s immigration status may affect benefits,

·         or how other issues may impact a person’s U.S. immigration status.

It is also particularly helpful for local government officials who want to gain an understanding of this complex issue, including how to lure new businesses to their community by encouraging the strategic use of the investor visa categories.

Immigration Attorney Julie Emerick (http://www.emigrate-immigrate.com/ ) will co-teach these classes.

Location:  2205 Enterprise Drive, Suite 501, Westchester, IL  60154
(just off I-294 at the Cermak Exit)

For additional information, see the attachment for  cost, how to register, and other details.

Teaching Citizenship Content

This dynamic course will teach the content behind the 100 questions on the citizenship test. This program is based on the University of Illinois Extension’s successful curriculum, “American Government and How to Become a Great Citizen.”

The five workshops are Fridays starting June 5, 2009. You can register for each workshop individually, or all five at the discounted price.  CPDU credits will be available.  Students successfully completing all five workshops will receive a special certificate of completion in “Teaching Citizenship Content.”

For additional information, see the attachment for costs, how to register, etc.

PREP AmeriCorps Positions for Clients to Gain Work Experience

Family Start Learning Centers (FAST) at the University of Illinois at Chicago Center for Literacy  together with the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services has received funding for a special project that will hire 16 AmeriCorps volunteers. The selected individuals will be learning a number of different skills. They will even be trained in the All My Money curriculum!  Interested clients should contact the Center ASAP to arrange to attend an information session.  A flier about those details is attached as well.

All My Money training

Do your clients need help with budgeting, credit, or opening and managing a checking account? Are you looking for a financial management curriculum that really fits your audience? One that’s easy for you to use?  All My Money could be the answer. So this is just a reminder that the next training is June 23 and June 24 in downtown Chicago.  A flier about how this program may benefit the work of your agency is attached. Please feel free to share this will colleagues and partner agencies.

Whew! There’s a lot going on. I hope you will find some of this information useful.

Karen
