Unlike current ARM or Atom based tablets, Microsoft's Surface Pro integrates a full blown mSATA SSD. My review sample included a 128GB Micron C400, while I've seen reports of users getting Samsung PM830 (OEM SSD 830) based drives. Both of these drive options are great so long as you remember to keep a good amount of space on the drive free (15 - 25% free space is a good rule of thumb). Unfortunately, Microsoft only offers two capacities (64GB and 128GB) despite there being much larger mSATA SSDs available on the market. To make matters worse, supplies have been tight of the 128GB Surface Pro, with 64GB models a little easier to come by.

A few adventurous Surface Pro owners have decided to try to swap out their 64GB mSATA SSDs with larger models. One of our readers (Tim K.) managed to successfully transplant a 240GB Intel SSD 525 in his Surface Pro. The trick is to make sure you clone the original GPT formatted mSATA SSD properly. For this, Tim used Reflect to clone the drive and MiniTool Partition Wizard to expand the data partition to the full capacity of the new SSD.

While he had no issues getting the drive working, his Surface Pro did sustain damage during the upgrade process. As we learned from iFixit's teardown of the tablet, there's a ton of adhesive everywhere and melting/breaking it is the only way to get inside Surface Pro. Unfortunately the cable that drives the touchscreen was pulled up when Tim separated the display from the VaporMg chassis. The tablet works as does the pen, but the display no longer functions as a capacitive touchscreen.

Tim tried to use a conductive pen to restore contact between the cable and the contacts on the back of the display but so far hasn't had any luck (if any MS engineers who worked on Surface Pro are reading this and have any suggestions feel free to comment here or email me). The process of disassembling the Surface Pro isn't easy. It took Tim roughly an hour and a half to get inside. With the knowledge that he now has, Tim believes that he'd be able to get in without damaging the unit but he cautions against anyone else looking to get into Surface Pro. I didn't want to risk tearing apart my Surface Pro review sample, so I'm grateful to Tim for going the distance to prove it works. He's also awesome enough to share photos of the aftermath with us and post a thread in the forums to help other folks brave enough to try this.

John566 over at the tabletpcreview forums managed to get into his Surface Pro safely (it looks like he didn't attempt a complete disassembly, but rather left the cable side of the display in place and just lifted up the other side). He was having issues getting the new SSD (a 256GB Micron C400) recognized however.

I'm Shawn, a proud Surface Pro 5 user who wishes to get Windows 11 officially, it has outperformed Windows 10 during betas and the official version is great. but that had to be done through the registry.

I have a surface pro 1796, surface pro 5, 2017, what ever they want to call it. According to MS I'm not compatible for W11, is there a way around this? I looked at my requirements and it seems it the processor is not currently supported. Is that to say it will be in the future or is that just a nice way to say "get a new computer"?

@BroMikeBos It looks like Microsoft allows you to add a registry key to get around the TPM 2.0 and CPU compatibility check (though I think TPM 1.2 is still required). Haven't tried this myself, but one of the IT guys at my office has upgraded several otherwise incompatible machines this way.

I tried it on my SP5, and it worked, but the animations and the touch response were lagging just a smidge from time to time. But most importantly the battery was draining at an alarming rate. 5 minutes of just browsing the internet resulted in around 1-2% drain, without any other application running in the background. So going back to windows 10.

Is it at all possible to upgrade it from 8GB RAM to 16GB of RAM? Are there any companies I can send it off to who can professionally disassemble, upgrade the memory, and correctly reassemble it? Preferably of course an authorized MS repair place so the warranty is not voided!

Another alternative, is if the MicroSD slot supports cards fast enough to be used as extra RAM using ReadyBoost? Microsoft's own store doesn't even specifiy that which standard MicroSD the slot actually supports tho, SDHC, SDXC, what?

No, the memory is part of the board so can't be swapped out. Also, readyboost isn't to give your system extra ram it is to speed things up in certain situations. Since the system has an SSD drive already, readyboost won't be able to be enabled using any external devices since it won't make any difference.

Since you are using Hyper-V you may try the dynamic memory allocation, the VM will lower the memory required when not needed. This way you can start more than one VM. I am using it with Linux and it works (with some tweaks).

Correct, however if you examine the context menu for the Lv. 2 Research and Development facility, you'll notice in amber it will state "Astronaut Complex Upgrade Required for EVA Surface Sample." At present, I have a Lv. 1 Astronaut Complex, and a Lv. 2 Research and Development Facility, and I am able to collect surface samples (on Kerbin.) I have not yet attempted to do so on another body -- albeit I wouldn't be permitted to get out, anyway. XD So, is this correct? Are we actually allowed to collect surface samples on Kerbin with only the Lv. 2 RnD? That's my game's current behavior. I'm sorry I wasn't more detailed, earlier.

It's old text, this used to be a thing but was dropped with 1.0.+ as it was felt to be too restrictive to deny players the ability to EVA at Kerbin, Kerbals must be able to walk from building to building obviously, so the restriction was removed.

This upgrade offers a faster way to remove print jobs with minimal effort. This not only saves time but also contributes to a smoother workflow, providing users with increased productivity and convenience. The Flexible Printing Surface is compatible with BCN3D Epsilon and Sigma D25 3D printers that are autocalibration enabled. You can read this product announcement here.

The upgrade consists of a new float glass that has a magnetic sheet attached to it on which the Flexible Printing Surface, a flexible magnetic PEI sheet, is positioned. The user must remove the current glass, which is made of borosilicate, and replace it with this new one. Once the upgrade kit is installed (in place of the standard glass), the Flexible Printing Surface can be switched out as many times as required. This is a consumable part and will wear down overtime at a rate depending on material, cleaning routine and printing temperature.

Surface Hub 3 Pack runs Windows 11 IoT Enterprise and does not support downgrading to Windows 10 Team or Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise. (If needed, you can reinstall the old cartridge to resume using Surface Hub 2S).

The Surface Hub 3 Pack packaging allows you to return your old Surface Hub 2S cartridge to Microsoft for recycling. To participate, remove the hard drive from the cartridge to protect your sensitive data and request a pre-paid shipping label.

Select your country/region and follow the instructions to obtain a shipping label. If you upgraded to the Surface Hub 3 Pack, you can use its original packaging to ship the Surface Hub 2S cartridge for recycling.

Since both cartridges appear almost identical, we added two bumps to the edge of the Surface Hub 3 Pack cartridge. These bumps are located on the opposite side of the power socket, helping you differentiate between the two models.

3. Sixty five minutes later, it was ready for me to agree to the License agreement. I did that, and clicked through the wizard to set up personalization, associate my Windows Live (Microsoft ID) with my local account. And that was it.

c. I have real Outlook 2013. Personally, this is not such a big deal, because I really like the Modern Mail App that came with Windows Surface RT. But some people wanted Outlook 2013 on their Surface, and now it is there. You will need to add a tile for it, if you are going to use it all the time because the upgrade does not add in new tiles on the Start page.

WARNING: This may void your warranty, destroy all your data or completely render your laptop unuseable. Proceed with caution and with 100% of your own risk. This article is written only to show the upgrade is possible, not to teach you how to do it safely.

When I bought this laptop I thought 128GB would be enough storage. Well, it turns out it wasn't. My photography hobby seems to need much more local storage that I thought, even though I actually save everything directly to cloud services. Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom use a lot of local cache.

Two other solutions I use a lot seem to need much more disk space I knew earlier; OneDrive and Google Drive sync. Even if the whole purpose of those is to not store anything locally, they actually use the local disk for a massive amounts of cache storage.

Conclusion; 128GB is not enough. I wanted to upgrade it. Until about January 2021 this was actually impossible - not because Surface Laptop 3 would not be upgradable, but because SSD disks compatible with this laptop were not generally available. Well, now they are.

The tiny box and even smaller SSD disk travelled around to world from Malaysia to USA. I ordered this from a reseller in Thailand owned by an American company, who sent it to me in Thailand. This is not in shops or storages anywhere in Asia yet. Malaysia is the southern neigbor of Thailand so in theory I could have driven to Malaysia to pick it up - if they had these for sale in Malaysia. The good news is that it arrived in couple of days and UPS handled the customs clearance without any hassle.
