Here are more detailed bios for each of our distinguished panelists -
please come with some questions in mind to ask them!



LARA GISH, '99
Lara Gish is a brand manager at Kashi. In addition to developing
tasty all natural snacks for the TLC line, Lara manages media
partnerships, works on digital media and traditional advertising.
Prior to working for Kashi, she was brand manager at Herbalife
International in Los Angeles where she developed nutritional
supplements and functional foods both in the US and in many
international markets. Lara graduated with a BA in International
Relations in 1999.



CARLOS HEREDIA, MBA '91, JD '91
Carlos is a corporate transactional attorney focused on the formation,
funding and counseling of product, service, technology and other
growth companies, with significant experience in:

+ Structuring and counseling companies, including initial founder
teams, emerging growth companies and mature established businesses;
+ Negotiating, documenting and closing seed, angel and venture capital
financings;
+ Negotiating, documenting and closing mergers and acquisitions,
including stock and asset-based transactions;
+ Structuring and documenting employee and consultant arrangements,
including stock option plans and other executive compensation
arrangements;
+ Structuring and negotiating various commercial arrangements (e.g.,
licensing, distribution and other commercial arrangements);
+ Completing public offerings and counseling public companies on SEC
compliance matters; and
+ Cross-border transactions and operations, involving in-bound and out-
bound business deals and structures.



DR. ISAAC CIECHANOVER, '94
Dr. Ciechanover is the Global Project Leader for ACE-011, a novel Bone
forming agent. In addition, Isaac serves as an Executive Director in
the Business Development at Celgene Corporation. His responsibilities
there include product in-licensing and commercial collaborations, the
assessment of M&A opportunities, partnering of proprietary targets and
compounds, and research collaborations. Prior to joining Celgene,
Isaac was at Amylin Pharmaceuticals with responsibilities in business
development and planning. Prior to his work in industry, Isaac worked
in venture capital as a member of the healthcare group at Pequot
Ventures, a multi-billion dollar diversified investment fund.



HELEN CHENG, JD '99
Helen is a Conservation Finance Officer at the Zoological Society of
San Diego. She develops new ways to support and expand the Society’s
worldwide conservation programs, including biomimicry and sustainable
development. Helen holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and is an
active member of the California Bar and San Diego County Bar
Association. She received her B.A. from the University of Kansas, Phi
Beta Kappa and with highest distinction. Prior to joining the non-
profit sector, Helen ran a business and practiced international
corporate tax law at Baker & McKenzie in China and California. She is
a board member of the Downtown YMCA, Secretary of the Athenaeum Music
& Arts Library, and sits on the Board of Advisors for Global Imprints,
LLC.



Dr. ROBERT BOOKSTEIN, '79 (UCSD), MD '84 (Yale)
Dr. Bookstein currently works at Biogen Idec, Inc in the corporate
venture investment unit which makes equity investments in small or
early-stage biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Biogen Idec is a
large international biotechnology company based in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, that develops and markets biopharmaceuticals for
cancer, cardiovascular, immunological and neurological diseases.

Prior to working at Biogen Idec, Dr. Bookstein was a research
scientist for 13 years at Canji, Inc., which became a subsidiary of
Schering-Plough Corp. in 1996. Dr. Bookstein held several posi¬tions
before and after the acquisition including Senior Scientist, Director
of Molecular Biology, Research Fellow, and leader of several discovery
project teams. His laboratory work included research in several
aspects of cancer genetics, tumor suppressor genes, prostate cancer,
cancer gene therapy, and cancer drug discovery.



DR. MONTE MARSHALL, PhD '71
After getting his PhD in geology and geophysics at Stanford in 1971,
Dr. Marshall went to work at the Magnetics Lab at the United States
Geological Survey west coast headquarters in Menlo Park. During his
four years there he continued his research on the magnetic properties
of the oceanic crust, and went on two, two-months-long research
cruises on a Coast Guard icebreaker in the Arctic and North Pacific
and on the Glomar Challenger, drilling cores on the floor of the NW
Pacific.

In 1975 Dr. Marshall began teaching and doing research in the
Geological Sciences Dept. at SDSU. His main courses were geophysics,
structural and petroleum geology, and plate tectonics. Most of his
research involved gravity and magnetic surveys to locate and
characterize the faults beneath metropolitan San Diego and in the
Imperial Valley.

Dr. Marshall stopped teaching classes in 2004, but continues to give
talks, lead field trips, and write articles. He is currently involved
with the USGS in determining the groundwater potential in the San
Diego area.
