Post-Election Series Seminar:
Electoral Reforms — Out with the Old, In with the New? (13 July 2013)

The Post-Election Series was kick-started on 8 June 2013 with a focus on the delineation exercise of electoral constituencies to be conducted by the Election Commission this year.  The second seminar held on 29 June 2013 went on to discuss allegations of electoral fraud arising pre- and on election day on 5 May 2013.

Moving forward, the Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee and Human Rights Committee are co-organising the third seminar of the Series to discuss various issues relating to the possibilities of electoral reform in Malaysia.

The details of the seminar are as follows:

Time:               9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Date:               13 July 2013 (Saturday)
Venue:             Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, First Floor, Bar Council, 15 Leboh Pasar Besar, 50050 Kuala Lumpur

Registration:     Admission is free but advance registration is required

The speakers and topics are:

(1) Wong Piang Yow, Founder, Tindak Malaysia: Tindak Malaysia’s proposed reforms and the electoral models that are practised in other countries;

(2) Ambiga Sreenevasan, Co-Chairperson, BERSIH 2.0: The proposed electoral reforms by BERSIH 2.0;

(3) Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, Minister, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water: What has been done by the Government following the Parliamentary Select Committee (“PSC”)’s recommendations (TBC);

(4) Nurul Izzah Anwar, Member of Parliament: Pakatan Rakyat’s view on PSC’s recommendation as well as the proposed electoral reforms (TBC); and

(5) Datuk Dr P Manogran, Member, Election Commission: The Election Commission’s response to the proposed electoral reforms, and their plans in improving public confidence (TBC).
