GE13: Excellent analysis by Prof James Chin - UMNO relying more on rural Malay support

Excellent analysis on GE13 by Prof James Chin. He suggests that UMNO has emerged stronger even though BN fared worse. And that UMNO can continue playing the race and religion card to hang on to power.

It coincides with the bigger perspective that we wrote in the Malaysian Rat Race Part VI, the picture becomes even clearer. That was the basis upon which we developed the TindakMalaysia electoral reform movement. 

What it implies is that if we continue with PACABA training alone, 5 years down the road, we will end up with a lot of good PACABA's and end up with the same results. 

We have to tackle the electoral system.

We have to tackle malapportionment and gerrymandering.

We have to address the problems of the rural community, which is focused around poverty, lack of education (electoral and financial) and information.

We need a holistic solution, not just a one-bullet method.

That is why we have expanded beyond PACABA (polling agent, counting agent, barung agent) training. We are now doing 

1. Projek BERES (reform the electoral system), 
2. Projek Sempadan (delimitation or redelineation exercise) to prepare to challenge the EC's proposed constituency boundaries proposal and 
3. Projek Cinta Malaysia (rural povery reduction programmes). For genuine change, we have to empower the poor and show them that we care by helping them directly and not by telling them how to vote. Fill their stomachs first and then they are ready to talk about democracy and freedom.

All 3 are not new projects. It may have a new name but we have been doing it long before GE13 and they are complementary to PACABA because the people who come in, can become potential PACABA's. Please identify which ones interest you and let us know.

This afternoon, at 2pm, MBPJ HQ, we are having Projek Sempadan training. Come in and have a look to see what it entails. It's going to be very exciting because KL Gan will teach us how to us Google maps engine to carry out the delimitation exercise.
