Job Description
Hillel Foundation of Orange County is looking for a Part-Time Engagement Associate to serve at California State
University - Fullerton & Chapman University. Time will need to be flexible and varying from week to week during the
academic school year. This is a 10 month annually renewable position. This position will be 20 hours a week and pay
can range from $10-15/hr based on experience and campus responsibilities.

The Engagement Associate is a part-time, informal Jewish educator who provides inspiring leadership to students
seeking to explore their Judaism and define their place in Jewish community; builds meaningful relationships with
both students who are involved in Jewish life and students who are not yet engaged, and encourages students to
grow as community leaders. The Engagement Associate will assist students in promoting a pluralistic approach to
religious expression to maintain a diverse active Jewish student population. As a “student enabler”, he/she works
with students to empower them to create programs and community networks and provide them with the support
they need to succeed in their endeavors. The Engagement Associate will help shape the direction that the Hillel will
take into the future.

The Engagement Associate is responsible for program development and student engagement on campus. The parttime
Engagement Associate provides ongoing support to students, coordinates student leadership development,
engagement of new students on campus, and program logistics. The Engagement Associate is a member of the Hillel
Foundation of Orange County staff team, and will be the primary liaison to Hillel for Jewish life at Chapman & CSUF.
He/she reports to the Assistant Director of Hillel Foundation of Orange County.
The successful candidate will be experienced in program development, knowledgeable in community dynamics, able
to articulate the importance of Jewish learning, life, culture and values, be comfortable in a pluralistic and diverse
environment, and be welcoming to all students.
Responsibilities:

Program Development and Student Leadership Empowerment
The part-time Engagement Associate will serve as an advisor and resource for student programming ensuring that
Hillel’s mission, values and goals are met. In conjunction with the student board members, the Engagement Associate
will plan spiritual, educational, social action, Israel, and religious events and programs. Responsibilities include
meeting with student leaders to plan program logistics, researching new program opportunities, maintain online
events calendar, oversee weekly email, advise student leadership meetings, build relationships with diverse cultural
groups on campus. He/she will empower the student leadership to carry out their responsibilities. This includes
assisting the Hillel Foundation of Orange County Israel Fellow by working on the Taglit Birthright Israel Hillel Trip and
other Israel programs on campus. Staff presence at Hillel programs (including evenings, weekends, and Jewish
holidays). Percentage of time spent: 50%

Engagement
The part-time Engagement Associate will identify, network, and recruit Jewish students to be engaged in the Hillel
mission. He/she will develop strategies for building relationships with Jewish students across campus as well as create
and implement engagement opportunities and strategic initiatives with uninvolved and under-involved Jewish
students. In addition, building relationships and programs with other religious and non-religious student clubs on
campus is essential to the position. Percentage of time spent: 25%

Program Logistics
The part-time Engagement Associate will be responsible for organizing and picking up supplies needed for programs,
facilitation of program logistics and ensure that program budget guidelines are followed. Percentage of time spent:
20%

Other Staff Responsibilities
The part-time Engagement Associate will need to be organized and connect on a regular basis with our Hillel office in
Irvine, CA, including meetings and student data. This includes attending staff meetings, keeping track of mileage and
receipts, board of directors meetings, working in the engagement student database (and keeping it updated on a
regular basis), etc. This staff member will be our main point person at CSUF & Chapman, and will need to keep the
other staff updated on a regular basis. Percentage of time spent: 5%

A passion for Jewish life
Informal Jewish experience required
A deep commitment to Israel and a nuanced understanding of effective engagement and education
