Abstract:
Recently deep learning has brought a strong impact on speech recognition research. It has reduced errors by 1/3, and has been employed to solve various problems in the field. In this talk, first we overview the prehistory of automatic speech recognition before deep learning, and then, explain how it has been introduced in this area. Next, we introduce the recent applications of deep learning in various subareas of speech recognition, and discuss why deep learning has
been effective compared with the conventional approaches. Finally we summarize this talk and predict the future direction of deep learning based speech recognition.-------------------------------------------------------------
