Come join us next week, on Thursday April 19th, 5-7pm in the B.C. Lounge (NORTH HALL) at Fresno Pacific University, for an event supporting the Summer 2018 launch of Fresno Pacific University's new High Sierra Project. Our guest philosopher, Dr. David Williams, serves as the Executive Director at Azusa Pacific University’s High Sierra Semester Program, and will lecture on understanding nature and experiencing community. An interdisciplinary panel of FPU professors will respond to the keynote lecture: Michael Kunz, Graciela Perez, Chris Janzen, and Daniel Larson.
Dr. Williams's lecture will compare Aristotle’s focus on the natural
world with Jacob Spener’s German pietist focus on community
formation. Williams argues that the intellectual understanding of nature
(Aristotle) and transformative community (Spener) must be integrated,
and that Christian humanities can revitalize the role of the humanities
in higher education by performing just such integrative work.
