I just saw the following from a Labour candidate:

"Please note that as I am a UK Government Minister, I am not permitted
under the Ministerial code to complete surveys of this kind on current
government policy."

Assuming this is correct, then we should probably (if we had time)
make a list of Ministers to make it clear they can't respond in our
survey.

(And is it correct, I wonder... I wouldn't be suprised).

MPs often give that excuse as well for not answering questions
from constituents.

My personal view is that if they have chosen to have a system of
cabinet where they can't give their own views, then that's their
problem. And they could always fill it out with the party's own
policies.

So tough. We're asking them as a candidate, not as a minister (which
they might not be next week, anyway).

Right now these people are candidates first, I'd say, and they should
be prepared to let the voters know what they think.

``Have you always been revolutionary socialists?''
``No, we vote Conservative.'' (Simon Hoggart, interviewing a middle-class
couple at a reading of Tony Benn's speeches)

Link to a mockup of what their TheyWorkForYou page will look like if
they don't answer?

Section 8.11 of

Obviously they haven't thought of this case -- ie voter's interests in
relation to an election.

Our demand is to get an amendment to the Ministerial Code to reflect
the point that people who are supposed to vote for them have got to
know what they stand for.
