Hello Charlottesville R Users!

Our first CRU event is scheduled for Wednesday September 24 at 6pm at the UVA School of Data Science building at 1919 Ivy Road (easy and free parking after hours!). Sign up and see more details here: https://luma.com/9zespmac. Please register so we can get an accurate count!

Please sign up for the mailing list here to get notified of future events: https://groups.google.com/g/cvillerusers. I'm emailing you all individually today but in the future we'll be using this mailing list as the primary venue to announce new events.

In this first event we'll discuss the format and goals of CRU, followed by a short technical talk/demo, with plenty of time for networking and meeting your fellow CRU members.

Spread the word! Please invite your friends, colleagues, and fellow R enthusiasts in the Charlottesville area, and let them know to register for our first event and join the mailing list.

And join the CRU Discord for chatter in and around the first event. This is a great place to introduce yourself to your fellow CRUs and chat about possible future topics or format.

I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!

Hello Charlottesville R Users!

A friendly reminder that our first CRU event is this week: Wednesday September 24 at 6pm at the UVA School of Data Science building at 1919 Ivy Road. See more details and sign up here so we can get a rough headcount: https://luma.com/9zespmac

Here's what we have in store:
  1. Social & networking
  2. Intention setting (30 minutes): What do we all want out of this meetup? What formats would be most useful?
  3. Technical topics (30 minutes): Pete Nagraj will kick us off talking about practical R packaging with Docker using the pracpac package. I'll then switch gears entirely to talk about the opposite end of the reproducibility spectrum: using AI tools in Positron (like Positron Assistant with Claude, OpenAI Codex, and Posit's Databot) for development, debugging, and exploratory data analysis.
  4. Wrap-up (5 minutes)
  5. Social & networking
I'm looking forward to seeing you Wednesday!

Stephen
