I have a hen that has injured her leg, though I don't know how. There is nothing visible so maybe she twisted it somehow. It is to the point where she can hardly walk and is spending a second day puffed up and not moving. I suppose I will give her a couple of days to see if there is any improvement but, unless anyone has a suggestion, if there isn't an improvement I may just have to end here suffering. Any ideas what to do for her?

Thank you, Nona
I just looked it up. I will go take a look and see. If bumblefoot is the problem, what can be done?
Thanks
John

I just check her feet and they look fine. Interestingly, I found her in the nest box. She hasn't laid in several weeks and she had a pullet sized egg (odd since she's over two years old) which had feces and a lot of fluid on it, no blood though. I wonder if she could have been egg bound and was just in pain generally with nothing wrong with the foot or leg. I haven't dealt with any of my chickens being egg bound before but my understanding is that it can kill them quickly. Wouldn't it be unusual if she was egg bound for over a day and survived? In any case, unless it's my imagination, she seems a little better now. At least she is standing around puffed up instead of laying on the ground. I'll wait and see...
Thanks again,
John

Sounds like she was having "female" problems! Hope she lays a regular size egg soon. I have an Easter Egger that is five years old. Lo and behold-she has started laying again! One very long skinny blue green egg about once a week! I Had a blue Orphington that died from being egg-bound. Her daughter died of the same thing a year or two later.

Hope your girl is on the mend! I am betting on it!

Thank you. I don't see anything wrong with the foot but she is still favoring it. Maybe the egg was coincidental. I'll let you know how things are looking tomorrow.

What you are looking for is a black -like hard mole on the foot pad. When scratched of-it is full of pus and has a core-but it isnt that simple! Let me know!
