Dear students,
Do you have a social impact idea which you can’t wait to get started on? Do you want to impact thousands of people in your community positively? Have you ever considered honing your personal leadership skills and entrepreneurial mindsets?
If your answer to any of the questions above is “yes”, you are not wasting your time reading this email. I am Shashanka Rao, an alumni from batch 2016 of IIT Madras. I spent most of my IIT days either chasing sponsors for Shaastra or racking my head over Analog assignments and grades. I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and joined McKinsey & Company as a Business Analyst. After two amazing years of working with high intellectual and committed colleagues, I decided to act on my passion in secondary education. I joined African Leadership Academy (ALA) in June 2018 to work on their social mission for the continent and help build ALA as a sustainable enterprise. This year, I slowly transitioned into an academic role with my current responsibility ranging from hiring teachers to teaching high school mathematics to helping students matriculate to universities.
I founded Parivartan Academy in October 2018 with support from my colleagues at ALA and friends from IIT Madras. We piloted our design thinking and self-leadership curriculum with high schoolers at Little Rock Indian School, a small school in rural Karnataka. We are back to experiment our unique curriculum, developed by leading design and entrepreneurship experts, with university students at IIT Madras. We believe that India needs leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators to unlock our massive human capital and potential. Through this camp, we want to create a network of changemakers and help them launch their social enterprise idea into the world. If you are interested to be a part of this revolution, refer to the poster below or apply here. We are running a week-long entrepreneurship accelerator program, starting July 8th, 2019, in association with Nirmaan and IIT Madras at ICSR. We have recruited educators from all around the world (US, China, South Africa, India) to facilitate the camp and mentor our participants.
Here are the expected learning goals for each participant of our program:
Use a design-thinking framework to design solutions for a self-identified need or problem in their community or society
Deliver a detailed business plan including elements such as key partners, strategic activities, value propositions and financials
Launch their ideas at incubators such as Nirmaan and build long lasting networks with mentors and potential future investors
This camp is ideal for first and second year students who are interested in pursuing a career in social entrepreneurship. We close our applications on the midnight of 15th May, 2019. We are also accepting applications from 4th year dual degree students.
