This email is for final year students, looking for an interesting and challenging opportunity to work. Copied is Akshay Gulati, a graduate of 2012 IIT-M DD, ME. He led the IITMSAT project till 2016 as a project officer. He is starting up in the Space Sector along with a few students at Columbia University.
They are looking for a final year student who can qualify for the role. The applicant would have to work part time with them uptil May and then full-time in Singapore from Jun or July. Here is the description, as provided by him.

The goal is to search, find and estimate position of a 10cm satellite (cubesat) up to about 10 meters apart using a camera. Problems include chaotic illumination conditions from earth and sun, high velocities, low processing capabilities of motherboard and quick updates of the distance required. Mostly individual project where you come up with best solution, but our estimate for possible skills required for this is computer vision (edge detection, distance estimation using focal length), image processing and shadow filtering, color processing for images, video processing, ability to work in C/C++, ability to use unconventional/non standard hardware, and maybe deep learning. Would also work on more conventional flight software with full system architectures, threads, watchdogs, monitoring several systems, going into emergency modes, managing inter satellite link through a duplex radio, managing motion through reaction wheels. Optimization of software, making sure it runs faster/making it more efficient. Mechatronics experience a plus.

It is an interesting problem statement. Interested students kindly reply by this weekend.
