Please join the Central Vermont Food Systems Council and the VT Dept of Health for an interactive discussion regarding the obesity epidemic and strategies for intervention at the local and national levels, taking place
. The event will be held in Montpelier at Local 64, a new and dynamic shared office space/meet-up above Delish at 5 State St.
We will be screening a short from HBO's exhilarating new film series "The Weight of the Nation" and will follow with a panel discussion of the following themes:
- What are the causes and consequences of America's obesity epidemic?
- Is the current health care system successfully addressing the crisis?
- Can we create healthier communities by exploring and challenging the current industrial food system and regional/city planning paradigms?
We look forward to hearing from our audience and panel by exploring these themes in an open conversation. Our panel includes the following respected local professionals:
- Dr. Bernie Noe: naturopathic physician, Montpelier
- Erik Esselstyn: farmer, pioneer of visualization and bio feedback techniques in 1970s, Plainfield
- Jackie Cassino: regional planner, Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission, Montpelier
- Sasha Bianchi: public health specialist, VT Dept of Health, Barre
- Emma Kapecky: nutrition/WIC specialist, VT Dept of Health, Barre
This event is free and open to the public, though space is limited, so
please RSVP by responding to this email or writing Scott at shum...@montpelier-vt.org.
We look forward to seeing you there!
