Historic Conference, First in over 35 Years, Targets Organizational
Unity and Addresses Current Problems
Atlanta, GA (BlackNews.com) - For the first time in 35 years a
National Black Power Conference in being held. Momentum is building
rapidly as national lecturers, leaders, activists, organizations and
Blacks from across the country descend on the luxurious Black-owned
Crowne Plaza hotel in Marietta, Georgia-just minutes from the Atlanta
Airport and Downtown Atlanta. According to National Black Power
Conference convener Attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz, National Chairman of
the New Black Panther Party, "The Black Power Conference is already a
must attend because of the diversity, history, brilliance and
tenacity
of the leaders, teachers artists and organizers scheduled to gather
and present this Friday through Sunday, May 22nd through the 24th.
The
Black Power Conference". This is a long overdue coming together of
Black Muslims, Black Panthers, SCLC, Black Nationalists, Pan
Africanists, Human and Civil Rights Activists from all over the Black
nation".
The Black Power Conference was first convened in Washington (1966),
Newark (1967) and Philadelphia (1968). Variations were held thru the
1970's. Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichal), Imam Jamil al Amin (H. Rap
Brown) Adam Clayton Powell, Amiri Baraka (Leroi Jones) Maulana
Karanga
(US) were all key figures. Now in 2009, the Black Power Movement, a
broad based umbrella movement initiated by Attorney Shabazz and the
New Black Panthers seeks to address current ills and hot issues in
the
Black Community by inviting and uniting over 50 Black Organizations
and leaders to this powerful weekend summit.
Dr. Leonard Jeffries- City University New York and conference co-
convener states, "We must have a clear analysis and definition of
Black Power. As we see the rise of the Obama's and the world eye
focused on Black Peoples here in America, we must understand that
power in the White House alone will not free us. We must have a plan,
and this conference is a key piece in the puzzle to develop the
structure to carry out such plan. This conference is historic. Not in
35 years have such a diverse group of nationalist national activists
and gathered under a common theme and purpose.

THE SOCIAL MEDIA REVOLUTION – INNOVATION, COLLABORATION, REINVENTION

I have spent the last 3 months talking to amazing people in technology
about social media and how it is revolutionizing the way people are
building their brands, businesses, expanding their businesses,
building new relationships, connecting with old ones and the list goes
on.

As someone who has been around a lot longer than the people with whom
I have been speaking, it feels just like the conversations we were
having when the Internet was just starting.

What makes this so interesting and exciting to me is it is leveling
the playing field and providing a platform for everyone and anyone who
has a great idea, great product, great insight to reach millions of
people and transform themselves and the people they reach.

Because we are at the very beginning of this revolution, so many
people do not realize the power social media tools hold for building
an unknown product, catapulting an unknown name into highly sought
after in a few months instead of the years it might take using the
more traditional brand building platforms.

And this is precisely why WITI decided to provide two days of HANDS ON
social media learning from the experts at the Social Media Café –
women who have used these tools for their own success, their client’s
success, their organization’s success.

We have all gone to conferences, where the most fascinating
information is delivered, but by the time we leave, much of it is lost
and the application is challenging.

We know talking about it is not enough – everyone at the this years
WITI summit will be working on their laptop at the Social media Café
so they can walk into their offices the day after the conference ready
to be part of this revolution and not be left behind.

We have created special packages so attending this conference will be
within everyone’s reach. Committed to your success, we are including
a WITI membership (or extension) with each conference registration so
you can continue to build your knowledge and connections throughout
the year.

Please accept my personal invitation to join me and other executive
women at this Amazing Conference! If you need support making this
happen, call our office at 800 334-9484. For more info and to register
for the summit, visit: www.witi.com/summit

Carolyn
