Disability organizations have a unique opportunity to expand their
missions and demonstrate their commitment to full inclusion by
becoming National Service programs. This month’s webinar will
spotlight the Munroe-Meyer Institute (Nebraska's University Center for
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities) AmeriCorps program. This
unique program has 20 members, twenty percent of whom are people with
disabilities
This presentation will discuss:
-The advantages and realities of becoming a federally funded National
Service Program
-How disability organizations can further demonstrate that individuals
with disabilities can meaningfully and successfully participate as
service members and volunteers

Dr. Evans received his doctorate in psychology from the University of
Kansas in 1974. He has been on the psychology staff at Boys Town, the
Florida Mental Health Institute, and the University of South Florida.
Dr. Evans joined the Nebraska UCEDD in 1986. He has been actively
involved with AUCD as the Vice-Chair of the National Community
Education Directors Council and as an at-large board member. Dr. Evans
is an active clinician, grant writer, educator, and training program
manager. He has received over six million dollars of grant and
contract funding and, with Amanda Volkmer, directs the AmeriCorps
program at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.

The National Service Inclusion Project (NSIP) is training and
technical assistance provider on disability inclusion, under a
cooperative agreement (#08TAHMA001) from Corporation for National
and Community Service (CNCS). NSIP partners with the Association on
University Centers on Disability, National Council on Independent
Living, Association on Higher Education and Disability and National
Down Syndrome Congress to build connections among disability
organizations and all CNCS grantees, to increase the participation of
people with disabilities in national service.
