Lynn Cullen
Monday, March 29, 2010
7:15 P.M.
Decatur Library Auditorium

Lynn CullenWe are pleased to welcome the Atlanta-based author of many
popular books for young readers for an appearance with her first novel
for adults, The Creation of Eve. It is a memorable story based on the
true but little-known account of the first female painter of the
Renaissance, who encounters formidable challenges when she comes to
Rome to study in the great Michelengelo's studio. You'll find it a
fascinating tale of court intrigue, romance and history, centered on
the question: How well can we ever really know another person's heart?
Lynn Cullen's books include I Am Rembrandt's Daughter, a prize-winning
2007 book for young readers, and other titles including Moi and Marie
Antoinette and The Backyard Ghost. She is a former winner of the
Georgia Writer of the Year award. We'll have books for sale and
signing, courtesy of our partners at Outwrite Bookstore in Midtown.

Decatur Library Auditorium
DAD Cover artDavid Anthony Durham is one of America's most popular and
highly regarded new writers of science fiction and fantasy. He joins
us with an exciting new book, Acaia: Other Lands, the second volume in
the acclaimed Acacia Trilogy, a series hailed by critics as "gripping
and sophisticated." The author is a winner of the prestigious John W.
Campbell Award as the Best New Writer of Science Fiction, and he says,
"While I began my publishing career writing historical novels inspired
by my interests as an African American ... I was still drawn to
futuristic tales." Publishers Weekly says this second book in the
trilogy "features intelligent and well-crafted prose with fascinating
characters." If you enjoy sci-fi, we urge you not to miss this
delightful program, sponsored jointly by Kennesaw State University,
and the opportunity to meet the author and get your books signed.
Eagle Eye Bookshop in Decatur will be selling the author's books at
this event. Please remember a small portion of all book sales at our
events goes to assist with our programming that brings wonderful
writers like this to Atlanta and the state.

Deborah Blum

7:15 P.M.
Decatur Library Auditorium
BlumWe are honored to welcome another Pulitzer Prize-winning author to
the Georgia Center for the Book. Deborah Blum. One of this country's
most respected writers about true science, she has an exciting new
book to discuss, a "wonderfully compelling hybrid of history and
science," The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic
Medicine in Jazz Age New York. Blum's book, which reads much like a
first-rate novelist's tale, features a striking cast of movie stars,
gangsters, wealthy aristocrats, crafty medical examiners and even a
homicidal grandmother! Her chronicle of Jazz age chemical crimes will
leave you breathless and transform the way you think about the power
of science. Her books include The Monkey Wars, Sex on the Brain: The
Biological Differences Between Men and Women, and Ghost Hunters:
William James and the Search for Scientific Life After Death. We'll
also have a special introducer for this event: Atlanta's Mary Kay
Andrews (aka, Kathy Trocheck), a former schoolmate of the author, will
take over those duties for this evening. Our bookseller for tonight
will be Charis Books and More from Little Five Points.

join with our good friends at Poetry Atlanta to celebrate April as
National Poetry Month by welcoming two very fine poets to the Center
for the Book. January Gill O'Neil is a Cave Canem Fellow, a senior
