When all the pictures I took in chicago last week were no longer on my mac I tried to reload them to the photo library got an error about them not being in the correct format and now they are all gone everywhere. However I have no issues now; everything is in sync and updates as expected I just lost a lot of slides from the AWS summit ?.

I've been having an issue with my Photos up and disapearing in iOS, but remaining in Photos on macOS and in iCloud.com. On my Mac and online I'm still seeing all of my Photos (12,000+) but on iOS I'm seeing less than 600 photos. Screenshots and Pictures I'm taking on my iPhone aren't syncing across. I'm wondering if this is somehow related to Apple removing iMessage Cloud Syncing?

Also I enabled full versions on iPad. While my library is 200 GB, on my iPad my library is taking 71GB. And there is a weird 1% thing in the "save space, iCloud photo library" recommandation in the settings. What is that. And is my iPad Pro downloading heic versions from iCloud.com to save space... what's going on?!

My iPad (2017) 128Gb has version 11.2.1. I have the latest iTunes on my laptop and just over 5000 pics. It gives up the sync at about 1900 ish. You would figure by now with all the complaints over tons of forums a specific, official patch would have been released. For the money I spent on the higher storage space, I expect the system to work. Very frustrating.

I have been using Dropbox automatic Camera Upload to backup photos that I take on my iPhone. I would also like to use Apple iCloud Photos to backup and syncronize my photos across multiple Apple devices. Once you take a photo with the iPhone the iCloud Photos functionality uploads the original photo and associated resolution to Apple iCloud. Once that upload of the original is complete, Apple stores a lower resolution version of the photo on the local iPhone in order to save space. I want to have the original (full resolution) version stored in Dropbox and not the lower resolution version.

Tips & Tricks Find new ways to stay in flow or share your tips on how you work smarter with Dropbox.

1. You take a picture with the iPhone
2. Apple IOS uploads the picture (in full resolution) to Apple iCloud and keeps a lower resolution version on the iPhone.
3. DropBox 'Camera Upload' uploads the picture (in ? resolution) to DropBox cloud.

What I am trying to determine is the sequence of steps 2 and 3. If 3 happens first then the high resolution version photo will be stored on both DropBox and subsequently on iCloud clouds. If step 2 happens first then the version that DropBox uploads would be the lower resolution version.

I was not aware that you could point Dropbox to backup files in iCloud. How would you do this? Also, I dont think this would work as the file format that iCloud uses to store the photo is a new highly compressed file format called HEIC which could be stored on DropBox but cannot be viewed on Dropbox.

Based on what you have told me it probably does not make sense to use the DropBox camera uploads feature then as it is dupicative of the iCloud Photos functionality. The DropBox camera uploads feature will be backing up the lower resolution version of the photos which is not ideal.

iCloud+ is a premium subscription that provides additional storage to keep your photos, videos, files, and more backed up and automatically available across your devices. It also includes access to features like iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, Custom Email Domain, and HomeKit Secure Video support for a private and connected experience.

I only have one iCloud device (an iPhone) so duplicates from other devices won't be an issue like some people seem to have had. I'm being told I can save 26GB in storage space by enabling the iCloud Photo Library. One reason I've shied away from that until now is because it seems to me that if I take a photo and only the lower-res version is saved on my phone that is the version that will get uploaded to Dropbox. Am I correct, or will the full-size photo always get uploaded?

Dropbox will upload whatever version of the photo is in your camera roll. Normally that's the original, unedited photo. If iCloud changes that somehow, and I don't see why that would happen, then Dropbox will upload whatever version of the photo is there.

This sounds more like a question for Apple, in that you're asking about iCloud and how it will impact the photos you take. Dropbox just uploads what's there, and has no control over how those files are stored on the device.

iCloud Photo Library, when you have the "Optimize Storage" option enabled, will keep a portion of the full-size images on your device, but the majority of them (assuming the size of the photo library is larger than the space available on the phone) are small, low-res thumbnails. When you tap on one of these thumbnails, iOS quickly downloads the higher-res version for viewing. This saves space while making all images available immediately.

I would hope that Dropbox's photo upload would somehow temporarily download the original file, upload to Dropbox, then clean up those files once the process is complete. Anyone know more detail about how Dropox actually handles this?

Did this post not resolve your issue? If so please give us some more information so we can try and help - please remember we cannot see over your shoulder so be as descriptive as possible!

If the photos are on your Mac (i.e. they aren't optimised) and you turn off iCloud Photo Library, the photos will remain on your Mac and in the cloud, but new photos, edits and deletions will no longer sync between them.

you will disable the syncing of the library on that device with the library in the cloud, but not delete the photos in either place (assuming they aren't optimised on the device). If they are optimised you will need to download the originals (assuming enough room) if you want to keep them on the device.

Hold down the command key while selecting the photos. Then click Download. Another option is to select a Moment, then click the Share button, and then cancelling the Share. The photos should remain selected.

I want to be able to delete photos from my iPhone 8 phone but NOT have them delete on my MacBook Pro. Now when I delete a photo from my phone, that photo is also deleted from my Mac, which I don't want to happen. What advice would you offer? Thank you.

ICPL is a syncing service and as documented and by design all changes (additions, deletions or edits) made to any connected library are made to all connected libraries - if that is not what you want then do not use ICPL

Ideally, when the link is clicked from my personal computer, the Photos app will open automatically on my iPhone/MacBook Pro. And if clicked from a public computer, it would require me to log into iCloud first before viewing the photos.

@PinkElephant Thanks. I shared the album with my Evernote email address, and a new note was created titled "Subscribe to (Album Name)". Inside, I clicked the link "Subscribe" and this prompted me to click "Join" or "Ignore." I did clicked "Join." However, I don't see the link to the actual album.... what do you mean "embedded behind the word Subscribe?" Even after I click "Join," when I go back to click the "Subscribe" link, it prompts me again to "Join" or "Ignore." Furthermore, it doesn't open up the album automatically anyway. I still have to navigate to it by browsing my Shared Albums. I tried on both iPhone and MacBook Pro. Curious if I'm missing something?

My father has the same issue he lives in a area where he can't get internet. We have a hack option takes two iPhones or a iPad with Cellular what you do is the phone you want to upload photos off you tether to the iPad or iPhone it will think its on a wifi network and start uploading photos. so take a old iPhone put your sim in it and tether it to the phone and then it will work its a hack and is a pain but does work.

Unlimited Updates
Turn on for unlimited use of cellular data to upload and download to iCloud Photos when you are not connected to Wi-Fi. This may cause you to exceed your cellular data plan.

Providing you do not have usual wifi-routers & purely using USB tethering, having a Google account signed in with your iOS device would help a lot, you may use Google Photos app to sync, back-up & retrieve them from your Windows desktop/laptop Chrome browser's Google Photos as long as you are logged in the same Google account as you've logged in at your iPhone/iOS device. ;)

Try as I might I can not find a tutorial that will explain how to get selected photos from my icloud account into lightroom classic. I recently went to africa and took photos with both my Nikon camera and used my Iphone 11 pro max, for local shots. The Iphone 11 pro mac, takes excellent photos and the editing program is quite good. I can see my icloud photos under my Icloud photo icon on my mac computer but I can't figure out how to import selected photos from Icloud into lightroom. I don't want to down load several hundred unrelated photos just the african ones. I hope to put some of these photos onto my adobe porfolio web site. Surely some one has made a youtube tutorial giving a step by step way to do this. Believe me I've looked but haven't used the correct request language to find it. I have seen some that say you can import all your icloud photos originals. By originals does that mean my icloud editing will not be imorted? I am kind of a visual person and need to hear and then see what to do. Thanks for any help.
