Today, in a 7 hour yoga workshop....the size 2 instructor informed us that doing shoulder stand will help us lose weight.  Yes, I know shoulder stand stimulates the thyroid gland - which does play a roll in weight.  It just sat wrong with me.  I didn't have the energy to discuss it with her.  Sometimes I am too tired to fight or simply educate.

Perhaps I'm just overly sensitive?

Hi Kris,

I know what you mean... I find it tiresome to have weightloss commentary of any kind in a yoga class. Whether it's a more subtle comment about upcoming bathing suit season or 'working off' the indulgences of the winter holidays, I find that it is distracting from what (for me) is the purpose of my yoga practice - aligning with my authentic self.

Lisa -
I love that line...."aligning with my authentic self".  That is truly why I practice yoga - certainly not for fat loss.

This group of ladies - plus the instructor - frequently go for coffee after class.  I might try to bring up the subject of 'why we practice yoga' and see if I can inject my thoughts from a curvy-gal perspective.

That sounds like a great plan, Sybil! :)  Let us know how it goes!
