Hi Curtis Park,
Just a reminder to take the Pool Survey and have friends and neighbors take it before end of Day Sunday January 4th.
There are two options and I am personally hoping people will vote for option A which preserves the long course pool we currently have while also increasing the size of the current splash pad to a medium size leisure pool. Option B would replace the current
pool with a 25 meter pool in favor of a large leisure pool and slide. The reasons I think this is important are as follows:
1, Denver has removed all of the large competition size pools from minority communities in Denver while increasing the size of the Congress Park Pool to accommodate both a 50 meter and a 25 meter pool format. This will lead to unequal access to athletic facilities
for the children of Five Points and North East Denver.
2, In order to have an opportunity to excel at a sport children need to have access to the facilities that enable them to learn and train at a similar level to other athletes. Children in Suburban communities and South East Denver have access to 50 meter pools
and swimming long course is an essential part of swimmer training. You would not tell a child who wants to be a basketball player that they can only play on a half-court until they reach College or the MBA. They wouldn't have a shot of getting there because
you didn't provide them the facilities they needed to properly learn and train. Our families deserve the opportunity.
3, With a 50 meter pool there would be space to accommodate multiple activities at the same time. There would be room to swim and play, or have lap swim and team practices or children's lessons. You could have diving or water polor in the deep end and another
activity in the shallow end. The larger pool provides the flexibility for athletic activity that the 25 meter pool does not.
4, A slide and other play features can be added at a later time without rebuilding the entire facility. Once the main pool is built it will not change for many generations.
Vote for whichever option you feel is best and pass this onto your contacts. Here is the survey link.
